One more year, four more pumpkins!
It was a nice cool morning – seriously, almost bbbrrrrr cold. Marisol and I met up with Mark and Maria at the school and rode out to Buckelew Farms for the annual picking event. Not having to drive out there let me enjoy a nice snooze out there – much appreciated. Marisol of course was too excited to do anything but just look out the window and wait to get to the farm. We got out there before the buses and parked in the first row. We just unloaded and walked to the wagon staging area.
After making a quick potty run and getting ready we just waited for the buses. It was pretty much like an assembly line – off the buses,
line up, get on the horse-drawn trailers, ride out to the furthest corner of the field,
unload, scramble around for the ‘best’ pumpkin,
load back up on the trailer,
go to the tents for a quick snack, load back up on the buses, then ride back. Whew.
Maria made pumpkin bread that Marisol absolutely devoured and wanted more of. She was disappointed when it was put away. Such is life, she soldiered on though.
On the way back to town, I kept telling her to take a nap but she kept refusing. Finally, as we got about 1/2 way back, she passed out. Literally. I had to hold her head because it was bobbling about, like, well, a toy bobble head. (The back seat in the Durango is almost vertical – she’s used to the van that reclines.) We had lunch at Eegee’s (Mari devoured a ham & cheese sammich), picked up her sister’s and we went home. We were tired. Ok, who am I kidding. I was tired. And so endeth the day.
I’ll put pictures of the pumpkins up this weekend. Maybe.
