What a beautiful day it turned out to be, considering that Saturday was cold, dreary, and raining on and off all day. Seriously, it was a perfect day, not too hot or too cold. I love Arizona.
As is the norm, the day started off a little late. OK. Let’s not beat around the bush, we didn’t actually begin our Easter gathering until mid-afternoon. But who really was concerned? It was just a nice afternoon and no one minded except for Marisol, who’s main concern was ‘When does the cakewalk start?’
Our family gathering are usually smorgasbords of flavor, and today was no exception. We had two hams, asparagus, potatoes, corn, potatoe salad, ‘ambrosia’ (I’ve never figured that one out), yams, spinach dip with bread, champagne with raspberries, various deserts, oh, and my personal favorite – devilled eggs. Everyone had their fill and then some. Bear got in the game too – someone didn’t close the gate to the dog run all that well and he was able to push it open. End result was he got some ham.
After the feeding frenzy, there was the requisite egg hunt. I didn’t get any pictures of that because I was inside the house in my office and missed it entirely. I was outside for the cakewalk, which was Marisol’s main event.
It was a riot when she won and ran in to claim her prize.
After the cakewalk everyone migrated in. This is when Ana and Gloria noticed that Bear was at the back door with his ‘woe is me, I’m out here all alone’ look that he’s perfected. There are suckers born every minute – he reeled them in on the first cast. ‘Can we let him in?’ For some reason, they didn’t believe us that he actually does come in to to the house. We told them ok and at first, Bear was a little skittish because there were wwaayyyy tooo many people for his taste. He eventually came in and being he has a sensitive nose, he went straight for the trash can and once pushed away from there, ended up in the living room and sniffed out a rack of ‘peeps’ Gloriana left on the couch. He actually made impression of his teeth before it got pulled out of his mouth. Long story short – he went outside again.
Round about 6:30 everyone started to leave. About that time, I even got a call from my buddy Roy. It was pretty much a banner day for us. I’m glad everyone made the trip and we all had a good time.
